POPLAR BLUFF, MO (AP) – A long-time Poplar Bluff city manager has been ousted by a new crop of elected leaders.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 64-year-old City Manager Doug Bagby was escorted from City Hall Monday night by Poplar Bluff police after the council voted to fire him. Bagby said he wasn’t given a reason for the dismissal.
New Mayor Angela Pearson has wrangled with Bagby over his paid position on the board of a bank that does business with the southeast Missouri city but abstained from voting on the termination, though she did attend the closed meeting.
Pearson is a 31-year-old political novice who helped elect three allies in April. Bagby sued the mayor for defamation after she criticized some city contracts and complained to state and federal officials.
