ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Major work on the Poplar Street Bridge kicks into high gear Thursday night. MoDOT is getting ready to shut down the ramp for Illinois drivers heading into Missouri. The ramp takes Illinois drivers to westbound I-44 and southbound I-55.

The ramp is expected to be closed for a month. One of MoDOT`s suggestions is to take the lesser traveled Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge.

There are a host of other closures that won`t last as long as the westbound ramp closure to I-44 and I-55. MoDOT says it has coordinated the closures with IDOT and the St. Louis City Streets department.  Drivers are warned to look follow detours signs.   There could be confusion.

MoDOT has also warned the trucking industry.  They are encouraging them to get the word out to any drivers passing through St. Louis to be prepared for delays  and find an alternate way to go.
