ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – St. Louis Post-Dispatch film critic Joe Williams has died. He was killed Sunday night in a single car crash in Jefferson County, Missouri.
Williams, 56, was a frequent contributor to FOX 2’s weekend morning show’s “Arts Pop” segment with Angela Hutti.
Williams, who lived in Brentwood, MO, was southbound on Highway 67 around 6:35 p.m. when he veered too far to the left, over-corrected, and drove into a ditch. The Missouri Highway Patrol says his car came to a rest on its roof. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He had been wearing a seat belt.
His mother told our Post-Dispatch partners that she believed her son was on his way to the Starlite Drive-In Theater in Cadet, Missouri. Williams was known to be a fan of drive-in movies and of historic Rt. 66.
Williams joined the Post-Dispatch in 1997 as a feature writer and became the film critic in 2000. He was a graduate of Parkway West and received his Master’s at the University of Missouri School Of Journalism.
Colleagues are shocked at Williams’ sudden death. They called his love of movies “infectious.”
