BELLEVILLE, IL (KTVI)- Tuesday night`s stormy weather led to several fires. Some residents believe lightning was the cause. A four family condo in West Belleville was hit by lightning just after 9p.m. on Hillside Lane. Residents say they heard a loud noise, then discovered the fire. The upstairs units suffered the heaviest damage. No one was injured. According to the building owner, the two lower units have smoke damage. The upper units were destroyed. The Red Cross put the displaced residents in hotels for the night. The building owner says he will help those residents find new places to stay until the condos are rebuilt.
A fire ten years ago also destroyed one of the condo buildings.
About an hour earlier, a house was struck by lightning in Mascoutah. The home owner also heard a loud noise. He also heard a bolt of lightning hit the satellite dish on his roof. The controller box on the side of the house burned. All three of his televisions were ruined. There are burn marks on the carpet.
