ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) - Racecar driver Levi Jones might have the home field advantage, especially since his home is in Swansea, Illinois.

"You know I've driven past here quite a few times in the last three years thinking, 'Man we need to be making laps there." said driver Levi Jones. "It's just nice to have great cars, a great series in a great venue like Gateway."

This Saturday racing returns at the official reopening of Gateway Motorsports Park for the Silver Crown racing series.

"Looks a little like an Indy car a little bit like a stock car," says driver Jacob Wilson. "The Silver Crown cars are big cars, 70 gallon fuel cell in the back of them, 800 horsepower plus. They're big fast machines, make a lot of noise and have a lot of speed to them."

The open wheel racers look like what you'd get if an Indy car and NASCAR had a baby...and that baby decided to run a 100 mile, 80 lap race.

"This is a mile and a quarter super speedway," says Curtis Francois, the owner Gateway Motorsports Park. "It really gives these drivers the opportunity to hit the speeds that they're going to do. They expect to hit record speed for the series at close to 190 miles an hour."

Gateway is hoping those who've been missing their need for speed will come back out and take the old track for a spin.

"The racetrack does much more than just sell tickets," says Francois. "It really is an economic driver for the region."

Speaking of driving, let's check back in with the hometown hero who'll be behind the wheel of one of the Tony Stewart team cars.

"When you leave the racetrack, is it hard to drive the speed limit on regular streets?" asks Patrick Clark.

"Well driving on the streets, my wife yells at me a lot because I'm always going too slowly," laughs Jones.

Plus, he might have a tendency to always turn left.
