ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- There's concern Congressman Todd Akin's remarks could make rape victims think twice about seeking help.

The YWCA St. Louis Regional Sexual Assault Center received about 500 calls from rape victims last year.

The director says Akin's comments could prevent women from reporting a sexual attack and seeking medical treatment.

The director says silence about rape is their worst enemy.

She encourages victims to seek help.

The YWCA sexual assault center offers numerous resources and has a 24 hour rape crisis hotline.
