CHICAGO (AP) _ Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner is set to sign early childhood legislation at an event with his wife, first lady Diana Rauner in attendance.
Rauner’s office says the governor and first lady will appear Thursday afternoon at the Mary Crane Center on Chicago’s West Side.
The nonprofit group started at Jane Addams’ Hull House in the early 1900s. Today it offers early childhood development services to underprivileged children and families.
The governor’s office says the legislation he will sign into law expands early childhood opportunities for children under age 3.
Diana Rauner runs the Chicago-based Ounce of Prevention Fund, a child advocacy group. It is among dozens of social service providers suing the state for payment of millions of dollars locked in the state’s budget impasse.
