HAZELWOOD, MO (KTVI) - The powerful storm left all kinds of Hazelwood residents displaced and the Red Cross is stepping in to help.

The shelter is located at the Hazelwood Civic Center on Dunn Road. Red Cross officials say seven people slept there overnight and they were all victims of Wednesday's storms.

Red Cross workers had breakfast ready to go for those in need Friday morning. The Red Cross sprung into action with the shelter not long after the storm hit.  Volunteers here tell me they served dinner to about 100 people Thursday night.

There were even more people at the shelter Thursday until power was restored.  Then folks went back to their homes. Most of the people who stayed at the shelter are from the Teson Gardens Apartments.  Those apartments were heavily damaged by the EF2 tornado.

The winds tore off many roofs and displaced a lot of residents.

The Humane Society has also been on site assisting those who need help with their pets. They will have a mobile unit in the area on Friday for anyone who needs it.  Three pets have been rescued so far.
