O’FALLON, MO (KTVI) – A woman fighting breast cancer often felt her co-workers were like family.

The team at Red Robin in O’Fallon, MO, just proved it.

“We’re a strong family,” said manager, Jamie Hoff.

Regulars will notice the change in décor.  Most of the pop culture photos are gone.

The workers sold them.  They gave the money to Michelle Moss:  a part-time server and single mother of two.

She’d worked there for less than a year when she came in with terrible news.

“She was really hoping it wasn’t anything,” said manager, Sarah Henry.  “Then she went to the doctor’s appointment and she came in crying.  You just hug her.  There’s no words for it.”

“I mean she had two kids at home in high school.  You’ re not working.  How (are you going to make it?) It’s tough.  We knew.  So we wanted to help her,” Hoff said.

Red Robin workers contribute to something called “The Giving Fund”.  It helps fellow workers in time of crises.

Between that and the sale of the wall décor sale, Moss’s coworkers donated more than $3,000 to her and her daughters.

“I had to get surgery (tonsils),” said Michelle’s 18-year-old daughter, Rachel.  “She was there for me when she was going through chemo!  It’s just the type of person she was.  She will fight battles for anyone.”

“I just want to tell them thanks from the bottom of heart.  They just mean more than they’ll ever know,” Michelle said.  “I feel very, very, blessed… I wouldn’t have been able to survive without it and be able to stay in my house and do all those things I needed to do… the whole staff here means more to me than anything.”

Her prognosis is good.  She’s just had a lump removed and finished chemo.  She’s about to start six weeks of radiation treatments.

She can’t wait to go back to work!
