ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – The man accused of kidnapping and murdering a Springfield, Missouri girl made his first court appearance on Friday.

According to Reuters news, “A 7th grade football coach was ordered held without bail on Friday and will plead not guilty to the kidnapping and murder of a girl snatched from a Missouri street, his lawyer said.”

No formal plea was given to the court on Friday. Wood’s public defender Christopher Hatley told Reuters news about the plea during an interview. A plea is required in his next court appearance.

Wood will appear in court before Judge Imhof on March 19, 2014, at 9 am. He is also scheduled for a preliminary hearing on April 7.

Craig Wood was expected to appear in court on Thursday to face charges for allegedly killing ten year old Hailey Owens. That hearing was delayed until today.

Authorities say Wood grabbed her Tuesday as she walked home from a friend’s house. Police found her three hours later. Prosecutors say Wood tied her up, shot her, put her body in a plastic storage bin and had already cleaned the scene with bleach.
