RIVERVIEW, MO (KTVI)-- The Riverview Garden's School District approved a contract Tuesday to bus transfer students to the Kirkwood and Mehlville school districts.

The contract is with First Student Bus Company.

It will cost the district $3,675 per day to bus the 1,400 transfer students.

The district's chief financial officer said six bus companies bid on the contract.

The district will also have to pay about $12,000 in tuition for each transfer student.

Ida Ray's son wanted to transfer from the Riverview Garden's School District, but he was not accepted into a Mehlville or Kirkwood school.

"They said he could go to Parkway, but I would have to handle transportation," Ray said. "I can't do that, so he is stuck."

Ray said she fears the troubled district will be even worse now that it is losing a significant amount of funds.

"They already have the money in those districts, and now we are sending more," she said. "There is not much here for my son."

The district said the financial situation is stable for this year, but next year the district will be in trouble."
