TOWN & COUNTRY, MO (KTVI)- Flakes are flying around the St. Louis metro area and that means road crews are out in force this morning on both sides of the river. Traffic is moving smoothly at this early hour. MoDOT officials say they've deployed trucks out all around the metro area to keep the roads clear. More than 200 trucks have been on the roads since 7p.m. Wednesday night.
The company did not treat the roads in advance of this winter blast because leaders thought there was enough residual salt from past storms. The trucks are now down a salt and beet juice combo wherever roads are wet to try and prevent any surfaces from freezing.
There is some concern over bridges, ramps and overpasses freezing with the temperatures starting to drop.
IDOT officials say they have trucks out salting and they are plowing in some northern counties like Jersey and Calhoun. At this point they do not have full crews out but they can increase staff if necessary.
