(CNN) – Some eye-opening developments in the saga of football star Manti Te’o. Ronaiah Tuiasosopo has given his first interview to talk about everything that went on.
He’s the man who says he was behind the fictional online girlfriend that Te’o believed was real and had died of leukemia. In an interview with talk show personality Phil McGraw Ronaiah Tuiasosopo said he was in love with the football player.
In footage released ahead of the interview’s full broadcast the 22-year-old gave details on the relationship between Te’o and the fictional “Lenay Kekua.”
From the interview:
Why did you end this relationship?
There were many times when Manti and Lenay had broken up
It’s like they would break up and something would bring them back together whether it was something going on in his life or in Lenay’s life
The talk show host added context on Tuiasosopo’s romantic feelings on the “Today” show
I ask him straight up – was this a romantic relationship with you? And he says yes, are you then therefore gay? And he said well when you put it that way – yes – and then he caught himself and said – I am confused.
Ultimately Tuiasosopo claims he ended what was going on:
I wanted to end it because after that I had gone through I finally realized that I just had to move on with my life and I had to get me Ronaiah just start living and let this go
Te’o rose to prominence leading a resurgent Notre Dame to an undefeated regular season – and a place in the college football national championship.
