LONDON, UK – He looked official with the outfit, the hat. He was loud and confident and it turns out he was a fake. The Town Crier who proclaimed the royal baby’s birth on Monday outside the hospital was just some guy who hopped out of a cab and jumped in front of the scores of TV cameras.
76-year-old Tony Appleton admits he was surprised he got away with it. He refers to himself as the Town Crier because he did the same “Here Yee” announcement at the royal wedding.
