ST. CLAIR COUNTY, IL (KTVI) – Police are warning about a scammer posing as an officer. They say the man identifies himself as “Deputy James Marshal” and asks for money to clear an arrest warrant.

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department says that they have had several complaints about this scheme. Police say a man is calling people from the phone number, (618) 972-6040. The caller tells victims that they missed jury duty and now have a warrant for their arrest. He says they need to purchase prepaid money order cards to make the warrant go away.

Police are asking for the public’s help to find this scammer. Anyone with information is asked to call investigator Jeff Hartsoe at (618) 825-5712.
