ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)– The Mehlville Fire Protection District honored 7-year-old Thomas Hale on Wednesday for his ability to stay calm under pressure.
Hale`s mother suffered a seizure on March 16th but Thomas knew what to do.
Not only did he call 911 but he remained calm until 1st responders arrived. You could even here him consoling his mom while staying on the line.
‘When you started shaking I called 911 like Daddy said to do,’ said Thomas on the 911 recording.
‘You`re seven?` asked the 911 call taker on the other line. ‘You`re doing a really good job and I want to try and get more information from you.’
Amy Reitz with South County Alarm was the person who took the call.
‘There was no concern or worry on his mind,’ said Reitz. ‘We have adults who don`t do that good.’
Thomas` mother fought back tears as her son received a medal from the Mehlville Fire Protection District.
‘We`re proud of everything he does,’ said Lisa Hale. She believes it really is true that kids are sponges when it comes to learning and it`s never too early to start teaching the basics of calling 911.
She said her son remembered emergency phone numbers, her own medical history and stayed calm through the entire time.
