Man in custody after shooting near Affton schools prompts brief lockdown

Missouri

AFFTON, Mo. – A suspect has been taken into custody after a shooting happened in Affton Wednesday in the 6400 block of Vita Drive at 11:03 a.m.

The Affton School District says Rogers Middle School and Affton High School were briefly placed on lockdown. Employees and any students on site are safe. The lockdown was in place for about an hour.

Police say at the shooting scene, they found a man with at least one gun shot wound. He was taken to the hospital with what police say are life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, 26-year-old David Colubriale, is in custody. The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued warrants for Colubriale Thursday for first-degree assault and armed criminal action. He is being held on a $150,000 cash only bond.

Investigators say Colubriale and the victim were involved in an altercation.

A court document said they live in the same residence and Colubriale was “agitated and the victim attempts to calm him.” Colubriale then grabbed a handgun and shot the victim “twice in the torso and once in the leg.” Colubriale then fled the residence and turned himself in. Colubriale’s wife told officers she was present for the incident and said it was unprovoked.
