DES PERES, MO. (KTVI) – The annual grocery store blitz is a holiday tradition.  Shoppers rush to pick up those last minute Thanksgiving items but in some cases they don`t mind.

'I love it,' said one Schnucks shopper in Des Peres.  'My husband makes fun of me but it`s absolutely one of my favorite things.'

We found one shopper grabbing a bag of charcoal she will use to smoke her turkey.  She competes with her husband each year for the tastiest turkey.

'I cook one, he cooks one and we`ll see who does the best.'

All 16 checkout lines were open during parts of the night on Wednesday.  A store manager said that`s been typical of how busy the store has been all week.

Some shoppers turned to the grocery store because the kitchen was off limits on Wednesday.

We found one retail worker stocking up on potato chips for Black Friday.

Another shopper just came in for her weekly groceries and was surprised over how busy the store was.

'I simply forget,' she said.  'This happens every year and I usually get caught up in the traffic.'

Others say it`s a fun time to shop.

'It`s a sign the holidays are here.'
