2 suspects dead, shots fired at St. Louis Police Officers

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO – Just before 8:30 pm a call for shots fired at police officers was issued in north St. Louis County.

Chief John Hayden of the St. Louis police department told Fox 2/News 11 that officers from an anti-crime unit were on Goodfellow when they noticed a vehicle that been stolen from south St. Louis from earlier this month.  Officers attempted to pull over the vehicle and the suspects fled.  At some point during a pursuit in north St. Louis, the suspects opened fire on the officers and the officers returned fire.  Several exchanges of fire occurred during the pursuit.

The suspects then made their way to Lucas and Hunt near Natural Bridge Road driving northbound.  They crossed over into the southbound lanes striking another vehicle.  The driver of that vehicle was injured transported to the hospital in stable condition.  Both the driver and a passenger in the suspect vehicle died from the impact of the crash according to police.  A third passenger in the suspect vehicle was critically injured and was transported to the hospital.

Police recovered 2 semi-automatic pistols, an assault rifle and a large amount of suspected narcotics from the suspect vehicle.

An investigation is ongoing.
