EUREKA, MO (KTVI) – It’s all hands on deck at Six Flags as workers put the finishing touches on facilities ahead of this weekend’s seasonal opening.

Park employees are painting, rehabbing rides, cleaning the food stands, sealing, asphalting, and getting everything ready to go. This is expected to be a big year at Six Flags St. Louis and management plans plan to make this opening weekend one of their best yet.

The Screaming Eagle celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. When it opened in 1976, the Screaming Eagle once held the Guinness World Record as the tallest fastest roller coaster in the world. To celebrate the coaster’s anniversary, there will be some special promotions all weekend long. Tickets are only $20.16 this weekend, but that’s if you bring an item from the World Bird Sanctuary’s most needed list, including: paper towels, toilet paper, liquid dish soap, 9 volt batteries, and duct tape.

A new roller coaster ride—Fireball—opens in May. This 72-foot tall thrill ride is sure to be a crowd favorite as it launches guests through a series of 360-degree resolutions.

“If your favorite part of the coaster is the loop, Fireball is your ride,” said Elizabeth Gotway, a Six Flags spokeswoman.

And old favorite “The Ninja” is also getting a new look in May as well, in which riders will don a virtual reality headset to experience

Last but not least, Six Flags will extend its season as they introduce “Holiday in the Park,” transforming the park into a winter wonderland. Beginning on Black Friday, the park will reopen with over a million lights, street entertainment, and a visit from Santa Clause.
