ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI) – This time of the year you'd expect Hidden Valley to be open for the Holiday’s, but it's not.

The reasons, it's not been cold enough. They need a combination of low temperatures around 28 degrees and lower humidity, but our weather has been a little up and down.

We`re not in Colorado, Utah or even Vermont.

But we are in Wildwood with a Eureka zip code.

And this is the Show-Me state and if you want to see some snow in Missouri and skiing, they can provide that here at Hidden Valley, even if Mother Nature isn't cooperating.

The local ski resort has you covered, or at least they`ll have these hills covered soon.

Early Tuesday morning they tested their snow guns to fire some powdery mixture onto the rolling hills out here.

So what if there`s no snow to be had in the St. Louis area?

No worries, Hidden Valley has a 100% snow-making capability.

They can pump up to 5000 gallons of water per minute.

I`ll save you the trouble of doing the math, that equals to about 12" of machine made snow in a 24 hour period at temperatures of 20 degrees.

This later start is something they plan for at a ski resort in Missouri.

Hidden Valley typically has an 80-day season, so fresh snows on slopes have been a possibility in recent years.

The parent company of Hidden Valley is Peak Resorts and that's a series of Midwest ski locations from north of Kansas City, over to Indiana, Ohio, and up the east coast into Vermont.

This group keeps in constant communication on the weather patterns as they make their way across the continental U.S.

Hopefully by next week, Hidden Valley expects to be making snow and have a white Christmas.
