DES PERES, MO (KTVI) – The Des Peres Department of Public Safety is investigating a video posted on Facebook showing possible animal cruelty.

The video appears to show a man in a parking lot in the 12300 block of Manchester forcing a dog into the back of a car then striking it multiple times.

"The City of Des Peres takes any report of abuse whether alleged or an actual case of abuse very seriously so in this incident when we saw it was being posted on Facebook but not being reported to the police department we were very concerned," said Detective Trent Koppel.

Someone who saw the video recognized the man as a friend of a friend.

They tipped off police and officers removed the dog from the home and put the animal in protective custody.

Officers are still waiting to personally talk to the man in the video before they can press charges.

"The person of interest has not contacted me back so we are in the process of doing more investigation and I can assure you our efforts will not stop until we physically see him in person," said Koppel.

Detectives said the dog is doing well and no other animals were found in the home.
