O'FALLON, MO (KTVI) - Two St. Charles County schools are closed Friday after police say a threat came in on a social media site.

Classes at Assumption Parish in O'Fallon and at Immaculate Conception Parish in Dardenne Prairie were cancelled for Friday.   According to a statement from the Archidocese, the decision was made as a precaution after a threat was posted to the popular social media site, Instagram.

A statement from the Archdiocese, describes the incident:

"In the late evening on Thursday, April 18, 2013, the Archdiocese of St. Louis learned of a bomb threat made on the social media site, Instagram, which involved a direct threat to two parish schools, Assumption in O’Fallon and Immaculate Conception in Dardenne Prairie. The local authorities were notified immediately and are handling this matter. Everything is under control at both locations; however, the parishes have decided to close their schools for the day as a safety precaution. Anyone with information about this situation is encouraged to contact the O’Fallon Police Department."

A third school in the Fort Zumwalt school district remained open.  That school is Fort Zumwalt West Middle School.  Superintendent Bernard DuBray says the district decided to step up police patrols at that school Friday, but decided to keep classes in session.
