ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- Volunteers have been working hard for hours in Soulard to prepare the area for the Mardi Gras celebration.

They set up traffic barriers so that the parade floats can flow through Soulard easily.

They also got food and alcohol tents ready for the big party. Each year, thousands of people from across the country pile in for the celebration.

The Mardi Gras celebrations generate more than $23 million per year for the local economy.
