SOUTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO – All lanes of Interstate 55 near Butler Hill were shut down overnight after a train derailment over the highway Saturday. At 3:30pm Saturday, a train derailed at Mattis Road, spilling coal onto the interstate.
The interstate was shutdown until the spill was cleaned up and the area was declared safe for traffic. It reopened around 8:00am Sunday morning.
Northbound and southbound I-55, near Butler Hill Road expected to remain closed until midnight or later.
