Springfield police investigating after infant shot

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Authorities say an infant was taken to a Springfield hospital after she was shot in the lower half of her body. They say her injuries were not life-threatening.

The State Journal-Register reports police were called to a Springfield home at 8:19 a.m. Sunday for a report of shots fired and a young child who wasn’t breathing. Officers found a girl under 1 year old who had been shot.

Police said they located several adults at the scene, including the child’s parents. They say an investigation is underway.

The child was expected to be released from the hospital in the near future.
