In St. Charles, a ribbon cutting kind of quirky, to open a store filled with beef jerky.
"There`s over 200 different kinds of jerky and we have the dehydrated kind as well as the smoked kind," says Cory Zornizer, Owner Beef Jerky Outlet.
At this newly opened business their game is jerky, and also wild game.
"Elk, venison, buffalo, bison, salmon, alligator, kangaroo, wild boar, pheasant, you name it," says Zornizer.
"A lot of people when they think of jerky they think of the dehydrated soy marinated stuff and they don`t think about the smoked longer thicker cut stuff that is softer and chewier that a lot of people like nowadays," says David DeRemer, Store Operations Beef Jerky Outlet.
The beef jerky outlet isn't just for those partaking in the paleo diet. They have fruit and nuts and all those staples to make a successful road trip with family or friends. And with so many jerky`s of every shape and size and flavor, it`s no wonder the store has a try it before you buy it, sample policy.
"Biltong, it's a South African process of making jerky," says DeRemer. "Essentially they dry the meat and then cut it so it's more uniform shape and thinner."
Once considered a snack for cowboys or hikers, jerky is being consumed by fitness fanatics and those who wanted to get out of the rat race.
"I wanted to get away from the corporate stuffiness and do something fun and really focus on the relationship," says Zornizer. "This is a different store, our customers are guests."
And those guests will be going on a journey sometime in the near future and they`re probably going to need some snacks.
