ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – When you walk through the doors of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital there is a sense of pride and hope in what doctors and researchers do to keep the dream of Danny Thomas alive. Some spend their day performing state of the art research. But, there’s another interesting fact about St. Jude, it was the first fully integrated children’s hospital in the south. The doors opened to everyone in 1962.

The research building houses flags from more than 100 countries. All of them represented by someone on the staff. The idea of helping and sharing research discoveries is an everyday practice. Vaccines are also made and shared on campus.

It takes $1.8 million dollars per day to keep the doors at St. Jude open. More than 7,800 kids are treated every year at no cost. Families say that’s a blessing they are thankful for the medical Treatment and the mission to find cures for childhood cancer.
