St. Louis area hotels furlough and layoff thousands of workers after tourism sinks


ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The tourism industry is among the businesses hard hit by the coronavirus pandemic. The St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission says most people have stopped traveling.

The Post-Dispatch reports that area hotels have furloughed or laid off thousands of workers. Workers at the Convention and Visitors Commission have taken a 20 percent pay cut and are furloughed one day each week.
