MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO (KTVI) – The St. Louis Blues are spearheading plans to build a major new facility in Maryland Heights. Plans for the St. Louis Ice Center were announced this morning at the Scottrade Center.

The $35 million facility would have four sheets of ice for youth hockey and other activities. The Blues would also practice there.

The center would be built on land just south of Highway 141 near Creve Coeur Lake currently owned by St. Louis county. The Blues are working on a plan for the county to donate the land. Then a non-profit group would run the center.

The Blues say with the Hardees Ice Plex in Chesterfield closing in a year, ice space is desperately needed.
“We have said that we consider ourselves stewards of the St. Louis Blues and we think that along with that comes a responsibility to help, along with all the others that were in the room today, be stewards of youth hockey,” said Blues Owner and Chairman, Tom Stillman.

Several different funding sources are being considered to help sustain the facility. Fall of 2018 is a tentative completion date.
