ST. LOUIS (AP) _ A nurse’s hotline service offered by St. Louis Children’s Hospital for a quarter of a century has come to an end.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the nurse answering line service ended effective Jan. 1. The service had been offered since 1989, allowing parents to speak with a nurse for advice about a sick child.
At its peak in the late 1990s, the hotline received roughly 90,000 calls per year. Last year, 12,000 people called the hotline, as parents increasingly turn to mobile apps and websites, or work directly with their pediatricians.
Nurses who worked on the hotline will be transitioned to other jobs within BJC HealthCare’s call center.
