ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - St. Louis City is closing several flood gates this week after heavy rains fell in the area on Thursday.

The St. Louis City Streets Department started closing and erecting flood gates Friday morning.  Authorities say the Mississippi River is expected to crest on Wednesday at 39.5.

City Streets officials say will close four gates on Friday and erect gates at Poplar Street and Carr Street along Lenore K. Sullivan Boulevard.

The Chouteau gate will be closed on Saturday.
