ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – Matthew Buckingham, 41, of St. Louis County plead guilty Wednesday in St. Louis federal court to charges of impersonating a federal agent. The charge comes from Buckingham misrepresenting himself to organizations, potential employees and employees that he had served in the U.S. military, served in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, was an injured war vet and was setting up a raffle to help wounded warriors.
He had taken out ads in Craigslist, soliciting people to help him sell raffle tickets at bars for drawing July 4, 2013. No drawing was ever held and the government says no money was ever given to veterans charities or distributed to wounded warriors programs.
After paying off various cost, no money remained.
Sentencing has been set for Nov. 25, 2013.
