ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Forget paper books. At 50 of St. Louis County’s 423 polling places voters will sign-in electronically on iPads for Missouri’s primary election. St. Louis County election officials hope to reduce the amount of time it takes for you to get your ballot. Voters will first sign the iPad with a stylus, then the system will print out a slip telling the election official and which ballot is needed based on the individual’s registered address. The St. Louis County election board intends to avoid the ballot shortage problems that plagued the April municipal election.
“It is our hope to implement this county-wide for the presidential election in November. Now if we have some significant hurdle that we encounter in August, then obviously we would reconsider that,” Eric Fey, St. Louis County Co Election Director stated to our reporters. “On occasion, poll workers would misalign. They`d print the wrong ballot style and ticket for the voter and there would be confusion, this adverts that. It’s a faster process for the voters and a more accurate process for the poll workers. At the end of the day we think it will be better for everybody.
There will be three to six electronic voting machines available at each of the select polling places. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. tomorrow.
