Family needs help to bury mother shot on playground

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Relatives of a young woman gunned down in Rumbold Park in north city in front of her children are speaking out.

The family of Jennifer Dorsey have a strong  message for the person responsible.

The shooting happen Tuesday around 5 p.m near the playground located at North Market and North Spring  in the Jeff-VanderLou neighborhood. Dorsey was killed and three others injured.

"It's hurting me to see my baby girl gone," said the victim's mother, Tarlisa Dorsey .

Jennifer Dorsey was shot and killed Tuesday.

"She was a beautiful  girl to me.  She had a beautiful smile and a great gentle kind voice. She was a heart warming person  and great with her kids," Tarlisa said.

Dorsey says her daughter was an innocent bystander. The park was full of children and adults when someone opened fire on the crowd. Jennifer Dorsey had two daughters, ages 3 and 2. Dorsey's mother is trying to comprehend what happened while at the same time trying to raise funds to bury Jennifer.

"She had two beautiful daughters and they have to grow up without their mother and it hurts my heart," said the victim's sister, Carlesha McCurry  .

A makeshift memorial stands outside Dorsey's grandmother's house and next to a sign that reads "We Must Stop the Killing."

Police released pictures of two vehicles captured on a surveillance camera minutes before the shooting. One was a tan Chevrolet and the other a black sedan. The family made an emotional plea for those responsible to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 866-371-8477.  This was the fifth shooting on a St. Louis playground this year.

The Dorsey family has set up a  GoFundMe account to help with funeral expenses. The family must raise $4,000 to pay for the funeral.

Dorsey became the 77th homicide victim of the year in the City of St. Louis.
