BELLEVILLE, IL (KTVI) – The St. Clair State’s Attorney’s Office charged a 24-year-old St. Louis man in connection with an armed robbery over the weekend at a Belleville business.
According to Captain Scott Weymouth, a spokesman for the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department, the robbery took place just after 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, at the Advance Auto Parts store in the 900 block of Carlyle Avenue in unincorporated Belleville.
The store clerk told deputies a man walked up to the counter, displayed a small handgun, and demanded money. The suspect left after being given an undisclosed sum and drove off in a late model Dodge Charger.
Belleville police found the vehicle and a brief pursuit unfolded, Weymouth. The suspect, identified as Michael Dean, crashed his vehicle near Route 161 and St. Clair Avenue. He was taken into custody after a brief foot chase.
Dean was charged with one count of armed robbery with a firearm and jailed on $150,000 bond. He remains incarcerated at St. Clair County Jail as the investigation continues.
