ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KTVI)- A North County family is forced to deal with an unthinkable tragedy when their loved one is killed in an early Friday morning crash on Interstate 270. Family members of Lamont Purley say no words can express their sadness and grief.

Purley, 30, was a father of two girls ages 6 and 12. Family and friends are devastated about the news.

"Lamont was a family man who loved his children very much. He was just a fun loving  person to be around," said his cousin, Pastor Carlton Lee.

The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. on I-270 southbound in Bridgeton near the St. Charles Rock Road . Missouri Highway Patrol investigators say Purley apparently lost control of his vehicle on the wet roads, hit the median wall, and then hit a MoDOT street sweeper. Purley was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Its a tragic loss for our family. A link in our fence has been broken, but we know that he is in a better place."

Purley worked as a parcel sorter for FedEx.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said the driver of street sweeper suffered minor injuries . There was another MoDOTtruck behind the street sweeper but it was not hit in the crash.
