ST. LOUIS (AP) – A St. Louis man who police say fatally stabbed his father 23 times was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Thirty-year-old William Kemple Jr., was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree murder and armed criminal action. He was originally charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the January 2018 death of 54-year-old William Kemple Sr.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the elder Kemple was found dead at his home of stab wounds and had a shirt stuffed in his mouth.

A witness reported seeing Kemple Jr. covered in blood after his father was attacked.

The son was charged with domestic assault in 2015 for allegedly punching, head butting and choking his former wife.
