ST. LOUIS, MO. (KTVI) – The creators of a multi-million dollar film that is centered on St. Louis are hoping for some good news this week.   They are hoping to be approved for tax credits from the state of Missouri.

"A Fall From Grace" is a film inspired by the murders of Julie and Robin Kerry.  The sisters were thrown off the old Chain of Rocks Bridge in 1991.  The suspense thriller has a budget in the millions and an Oscar nominated lead actor in Tim Roth.  Jennifer Lynch is the director.  St. Louis is the backdrop.

One of the film's executive producers is Melanie Mohlman.  She is also an investor in the project and hopes the state approves the tax credits by the end of the week.   She doesn't want a film about St. Louis to be made in another city.

"We are patiently waiting but we do need to move quickly because we are getting pressure to look in other states that do have tax credits," said Mohlman.

The movie's teaser shows some familiar St. Louis landmarks.  Mohlman says the film's creators began pursuing the tax credits in September but are still waiting for a decision from the state.  She says the film Mohlman argues that the tax credits will pay for themselves with the money generated by a major film production coming to St. Louis.

"I think that it could also parlay into many other films being made here," said Mohlman.

The movie's budget would be $10 million dollars according to a representative from the film. If financing is secured it could bring jobs and much needed national exposure to St. Louis. Film makers are still waiting on a letter of intent to be processed by the state of Missouri. The movie has been waiting on the state to respond since November. They say that if they do not get an answer soon they will switch locations for filming. Meaning, St. Louis could lose jobs and a star studded movie and to another city.

The plot of the thriller is about a St. Louis detective played by Roth searching for a serial killer. The burned bodies of young girls are washing ashore on the banks of the Mississippi river. The movie tracks the detective's decent into darkness to catch the murderer. The closer the detective gets to death, the closer he gets to solving the case.
