One Arrested for Allegedly Shooting Police Officer

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has issued charges against Dominic M. Hamptiol, a North County resident accused of shooting a St. Louis Police Officer Friday morning.  Dominic, 26-years of age has been charged with 1st Degree Assault o a Law Enforcement Officer and Armed Criminal Action.  The shooting happened early Friday morning when that officer tried to arrest the suspect in a robbery.  A short standoff led to the arrest of the man police say shot a St. Louis officer.  

It was around 1:30 a.m. when the officer spotted the suspect in the 8800 block of N. Broadway.  Investigators say the suspect pulled out a gun and fired several rounds at officer.

The officer returned fire but was shot in his upper left arm and called for backup.  The 30-year-old officer was taken to Barnes Hospital where he was treated and released. Fortunately, the officer's injury appears to be minor. The officer is a four year veteran.
After the shooting, police launched a manhunt for the gunman.  Around 7:40 a.m., St. Louis County police surrounded a home in the 1100 block of St. Cyr in Bellefontaine Neighbors. Authorities arrested one man at the scene.  

Students from the Danforth Elementary Academy right across the street from the home where the standoff took place were taken to Gibson Elementary.  The nearby Danforth Early Childhood Education Center closed for the day.  The elementary kids were eventually brought back after the all clear was given.

Hamptiol is being held at the St. Louis County Justice Center, on a $150,000 cash only bond.
