ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- FBI data is uncovering crime in America. The research, from Law Street Media, reveals which American cities, including St. Louis, are considered the most dangerous in the country.

This new analysis looks at crime in the FBI’s database. The agency released its latest numbers on violence happening in American cities including murder, aggravated assault, robbery and rape. Those are the four major crime categories used along with U.S. Census Bureau data. This overall look at the whole country paints a grim picture for some cities, some which are no stranger to the list.

Coming in at number one on the list of most dangerous cities over 200,000 is Detroit, Michigan.

Detroit has maintained the top spot for the last few years running despite a slight decrease in crime. Officials there credit the police department`s increase in solving murders. Number two for the second year in a row is Oakland, California which has seen a ten-year high in violent crime. It`s followed by Memphis, Tennessee at number three.

In at number four is St. Louis, Missouri. Despite a downward trend in violent crime, St. Louis City continues to maintain a spot on the top ten list.

2013 is the latest year for which the FBI has released crime statistics.

So, it`s unclear how the increased homicide rate this year could impact future rankings.
