ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Despite the increasing clouds and light rain showers it was a nice day to hit the water in Stateamind AquaFox to take in the last gasp of fall colors in Missouri.
We started our trip in the historic town of Hermann where there is still a healthy coverage of gold, orange and some vibrant maroon pasting the landscape. The best colors can be found on the south shoreline through the city of Hermann itself.
According to Hermann Area Chamber of Commerce President, Ron Kraettli, this has been an excellent season for businesses thanks to the fantastic weather and strong show of colors.
Further downstream in Washington, the best colors are also past, but there are still some bright yellows and oranges along both banks, especially near the Highway 47 bridge.
By far, the best remaining color in our area is along the Meramec River closer in to the St. Louis metro. That's because the urban heat island effect has slowed the progression of the fall colors with many spots in the metro just now reaching peak colors.
No matter where you look, the leaves will start to fall fast Friday with a strong and gusty winter-like wind blowing the coldest air of the season so far into town during the day.
