MADISON COUNTY, IL (KTVI) - A Troy, Illinois man is accused of luring a 13 year-old girl across state lines, to have sexual relations with her and her mother. He now faces federal charges.

On Monday night, investigators say 27 year-old Shane Schlaeferpulled into the Denny’s parking lot in Collinsville, to meet a mother and daughter from Ohio. But there was no real mother and daughter; authoriites got to him first.

Court documents show this sting was several months in the making. It all started in November, with an undercover officer from Ohio, who specializes in internet crimes against children. The investigator, posing as fictional Ohio mother “Traci Black”, was contacted by Schlaefer, on the website

Court documents show that Schlaefer’s initial message stated, “I want to know if you would like a man to breed both you and your daughter.” For the next few months, Schlaefer and the undercover officer engaged in sexual conversations through and the Experience Project network.

In January, they started exchanging text messages. Via text, he asked the mother, ”So is your little girl wanting to make a baby?” Soon, he started chatting with the supposed 13 year-old also, and sent her alleged child pornography images.

Meanwhile, investigators used Schlaefer’s phone number to identify him, and matched his facebook photo to his profile pictures on these other websites. The conversations escalated, and court documents show that Schlaefer arranged for the mother/daughter duo to drive to Illinois from Ohio to meet him. He said he’d pay Traci Black $500, and would get a hotel room to have sex with both of them.

On April 6th, just before 11 at night, the sting was set. Schlaefer arrived at the Denny’s on Ramada Inn Drive in Collinsville, to meet Traci Black and her daughter, and head to the hotel next door. When he got out of his car, U.S. Secret Service agents arrested him. Schlaefer eventually admitted everything.

U.S. Attorney Stephen Wigginton stated, “My office will spare no time or effort in defending the most innocent in our society – our children. Again, i warn parents – be knowledgeable and vigilant of computer usage when it comes to your children. Predators are out there, and they will stop at nothing to get to their prey.”

Schlaefer now faces federal charges of attempted sex trafficking and attempted enticement of a minor. He’s being held without bond until his trial. If he’s convicted, he could face a $250,000 fine, and up to life in prison.
