ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - Rain and a few thunderstorms are spreading rapidly northeast across Missouri and will overtake the southwest counties in the Fox 2/KPLR 11 viewing area; roughly along a line from Montgomery City to Washington to Festus to Carbondale by 10 p.m.

The rain and storms will then spread over the rest of the viewing are between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. Heavy rain and lightning are likely at times, but severe weather is not expected overnight.

Storms will move out by late Saturday morning and then we have to wait and see if the atmosphere can recharge in time to support some isolated strong to severe storms Saturday afternoon and evening.

The redevelopment of storms is iffy for Saturday and may not happen at all. However, if they do you should expect them to remain isolated, with large hail and some gusty winds the main concern.

There is also a very low risk of a quick tornado or two, much like the small ones we saw the other day northeast of St. Louis.
