SUNSET HILLS, Mo. (AP) _ A St. Louis County grand jury has indicted an area mayor who authorities say ran into a bicyclist with his car.

Jurors on Thursday indicted Sunset Hills Mayor Mark Furrer. He was charged Oct. 1 with felony second-degree assault and property damage. The 60-year-old has denied wrongdoing and says the cyclist caused the collision after running a stop sign.

The cyclist has told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Furrer yelled at him to get off the road and intentionally hit him.

Aldermen voted Tuesday to approve an ordinance outlining an impeachment process for the mayor. Furrer voted against the ordinance and says he won’t step down.
