Suspect arrested for auto theft and car break-ins

FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, IL. (KTVI) – A vehicle theft in Fairview Heights, leads police to solving several car break-ins.

Just before 3:00 am Tuesday morning, Fairview Heights Police were called to Veach Drive for a vehicle theft.  A resident was awaken from his sleep, when he heard his car starting up in his driveway.  He ran to window to see his 2004 Dodge Neon being driven away from his home.

Responding police put out a description of the vehicle, which was spotted by a St. Clair County Deputy at the intersection of Highway 161 and Highway 159.

The deputy attempted to stop the car, but the suspect sped off, losing control of the vehicle near the Swansea Police Department, hitting a curb and embankment.

The suspect was taken into custody, treated for his injuries suffered in the crash and booked.

It was later determined that the suspect was also involved in 5 other car break-ins in the vicinity of Veach Drive in Fairview Heights.

The suspect is currently being held in the St. Clair County Jail.
