Peru (CNN) - Convicted killer Joran Van der Sloot says he'd rather stay in Peru and finish out his sentence, than be extradited to the United States.  Van der Sloot is serving 28 years behind bars for killing a woman he met in a casino there.

U.S. officials have charged him with extortion and wire fraud in connection to Natalee Holloway's disappearance in Aruba in 2005.
Van der Sloot's lawyer says a long standing extradition treaty between Peru and the U.S. could mean that he will probably be extradited, despite his preference.
