Suspect Shot By Officer In St. Louis City

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - A man is recovering after being shot by a St. Louis Police officer during an encounter near a south city alleyway.

At around 1 pm on Tuesday a man driving a green Escalade was being pulled over for running a stop sign. When he refused to stop police followed him to the 2800 block of Osage and Oregon. The man jumped out of his car and ran down an alleyway and nearby gangway. Police caught up with the suspect and saw a gun in his hand, they told him to drop it when he didn`t police fired shots. The suspect was hit three times once in the leg and shoulder

The suspect was taken to a local hospital where he is listed in serious condition. The officer is 30 years old and has been on patrol for the last four years. There were no officers hurt in the shooting. This is the 6th police involved shooting in the last 30 days in St. Louis. There have been 13 incidents so far this year compared to the 13 for all of 2011.

The suspects semi-automatic handgun was recovered at the scene.
