ST. CHARLES, MO – Shortly after 5:45 pm Saturday evening the St. Charles city police department was called to an apartment complex near Fifth Street and San Juan Drive for an apparent home invasion. Police tell Fox 2 that a male intruder was shot and killed by resident in the apartment.

Police are trying to determine if the intruder had a relationship with the owner and if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the incident.

Police also say that children were inside the apartment when the shooting occurred, but were unharmed.

“It`s my understanding they may have heard some things. We would like to speak with them. Family members are taking care of the children at this time,” said Lieutenant Chad Fisk.

Police are not releasing the names of those involved and say the investigation is ongoing.
