ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - At a time when budgets are shrinking at districts across the country, teachers are going the extra mile to help make their students successful. Some teachers are looking new ways to fund their classroom projects aside from using their own money.
St. Louis public school teacher Carrie Burgett and Ferguson-Florissant teacher Lindsay Williams use sites like gofundme.com and donorschoose.org. Carrie reached her $350 goal in less than five days. Meanwhile Lindsay raised over $3,000 over a 2-year period.
“My students had a lack of resources and it wasn`t something that I could fund myself. Thousands of dollars in books, math and science supplies. The website was something that I came across from another teacher. ‘said Williams
'I have an autism classroom my kids are non-verbal. I make and need a lot of materials for laminating and velcro projects'
According to gofundme.com in 2015 more than 141,000 campaigns raised 20 million dollars in the websites education category.
